Situated 250 kms south of Paris, the sanctuary of Issoudun is consecrated to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The missionary intuition of Father Chevalier is the origin this sanctuary in the 19th century.
After being assistant pastor in three different places, Father Chevalier was named to Issoudun in 1854. This was for him a sign from Heaven. He began with other priests a novena to the Virgin Mary in whom they trusted their missionary project. This was at the time of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. At the end of the novena, December 8, 1854, they were given a large sum of money for their missionary work. In September 1855, the first community of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart settled into the place where the Sanctuary of Issoudun is today.
The deepening of the devotion and the spirituality that followed the Second Vatican Council incited those in charge of the sanctuary to pursue the intuition of the founder: Mary leads us to Christ who is the center of our lives. In Issoudun, one sees in the same gaze Our Lady and the Sacred Heart. This is the grace of the pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Issoudun. You will discover the basilica, the cross, the crypt, and the chapel of Our Lady of the Eucharist.
Come and pray Mary in this sanctuary in France.
