ABBEY OF NOTRE DAME DE RANDOL, Saint Amant Tallende, http://www.lumen-terra.com/img/lieux/16_Randol_monastere_recoupe_1.png

Light and peace in Auvergne

In the heart of the Auvergne mountains, south of Clermont-Ferrand is the Abbey of Randol with its community of Benedictine monks.

The first monks arrived in Randol in May 1971. This Abbey has relatively recent architecture, in which the community lives as “faithful and jealous guardians of the treasures of the Catholic tradition” as called for by Pope Paul VI. This is visible here especially in the liturgy. The Gregorian chants in Latin are not a way of showing opposition to the Second Vatican Council, but rather is fidelity to the special call made to the Benedictines by the Holy Father in 1964. “Ora et labora”, says the rule of Saint Benedict. The monks maintain a life balanced between prayer and work as well as fraternal dialogue. The specialty of Randol is its cheese. This product of their work is sold by the monks in the Abbey store and provides for the financial needs of the community.

Our DMC in France can organize an encounter with a monk of the community during your Catholic pilgrimage in France.
