Provence became the cradle of Christianity in France with the arrival in the 1st century of Saint Mary Magdalene and Saint Lazarus from the Holy Land. Provence has many sanctuaries and Christian traditions. This is also a historical region with sublime architecture and charming villages, bathed in sun for 10 months of the year.
This pilgrimage begins in Marseille, 3rd city of France, a city that is protected from above by “Good Mother”, the basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde, dear to the hearts of Marseille people. Then we will go to pray at the Grotto of Saint Baume where tradition has it that Saint Mary Magdalene, contemporary of Christ, came ashore with Saint Lazarus.
Next we will go to Cotignac to pray for families in the only apparition sanctuary in the world consecrated to Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, the Holy Family. The childless King and Queen of France went on pilgrimage to Cotignac to ask for the grace of a child. Louis XIV, famous for his construction of the Chateau de Versailles, was born. Fathers and mothers go on annual pilgrimages to this sanctuary.
We will go to the Cistercian Abbey of Thoronet to pray with the nuns and to visit the abbey, an architectural jewel of great beauty.
To complete our spiritual trip of several days we will go to the Calanques of Cassis, a beautiful area overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
