The Virgin Mary has a long “tradition” of apparitions in France that are recognized by the Church. One of course knows of Lourdes where the Virgin Mary revealed her Immaculate Conception, but there are many others that are well worth the visit and a pilgrimage. There is Paris with the Chapel of the Miraculous Medal (1830), Cotignac (1519), Notre Dame du Laus (1647), Notre Dame de La Salette (1846), Pontmain in Normandy (1872), and l’Ile Bouchard (1946).
There is also the site where Jesus appeared, Paray-le-Monial in 1671, to reveal his Sacred Heart full of mercy. One will also remember the apparition of the Archangel Michael at Mont Saint Michel.
France is the land of apparitions and this pilgrimage is the occasion to deepen the message of God’s mercy and the need for each of us of conversion.
